Abstract
INTRODUCTION: This meta-analysis investigated the effects of Taekwondo exercise on elementary school students. Research questions are as follows : First, what is overall effect size of Taekwondo exercise in elementary school students? Second, what is the effect size by categorical variables such as grade level, publication status, outcome characteristics? Third, what is the effect size by continuous variables such as sample size and publication year?
METHOD: A comprehensive search of the complete Research Information Sharing Service(RISS) and Korean National Library from January 2000 to March 2012 was conducted. 22 egligible studies compared students exercising Taekwondo to non-exercising students.

RESULT: Results from data analysis as follows. First, the overall effect size for all studies of elementary school students was .79, which was very high. Second, unpublished articles showed lower effect size than published ones. Third, the effect size of body composition was W/H ratio, BMI, body fat, and lean body mass in order. Fourth, the effect size of physical fitness was cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular power, muscular endurance, agility, flexibility, balance, and muscular strength in order. Fifth, this meta-analysis showed as the number of Taekwondo trainees decreased, the effect size increased.

CONCLUSION: These findings showed that Taekwondo exercise was effective for body composition and strength in elementary students. The implication and limitation of analysis results, and the direction of future research were discussed.
